I'm sure we have all started something with the best intention of finishing some time in the future. Well I am a big one for having a large U.F.O. pile and although I try to make this pile smaller, finding time and new fabrics do make it hard. I tend to get so sidetracked sometimes that the simplest of quilts can take up to 5 years to complete . I hate to say that this is the quilt that took me so long, but it's not my longest I still have one that is 6 years and ongoing.

It is called Jilly's Garden and my mum is now doing it . I'm sure she won't take as long as I did. I would love to hear what the longest time it has taken to finish your quilt? Now if I could just do something about the pile of tops waiting for me to quilt.

  1. It's a lovely quilt and well worth the time taken. Four years is the longest I've taken but I had the best of intentions. honest! Ann :)

  2. It's a very beautiful quilt, Bec! Is that your darling cat Harry in the bottom left on the quilt???

Seems like a lot of my quilts go through a resting period (laughing). It took me three years to finish one particular quilt. But it wasn't as if I was working on it all that time. I had put it away, and was waiting for my free motion quilting skills to improve before attempting to finish it. Over the earlier part of that 3 year period other quilts got finished because I sent them out to get quilted. Then, although my skill level grew, I still didn't get right back to it. I'm glad I waited, because I don't think I would have otherwise done it justice.

  3. I like Beena's term "resting period", I'm going to use that one.
I have a UFO I started as a wedding present in 1994! I think I gave up and bought the couple a gift from their gift registry and I have "borrowed" some of the fabric from the UFO so will never be able to finish it. My kids can decide what to do with it when I'm gone.

  5. I've had several tops done and waiting to be quilted for four years. But now this summer I have finished three (two more to be shown on my blog), but I still have one that I started and I'm thinking its going to take ten more year to complete!

  7. love that quilt! another reminder of Spring! Mmmm longest quilt? I've still got one in the cupboard that I started in 1997.... ooopss.. but that's it.. everything else is finished, ( oh except the one I started last week) I don't think I intend to finish the other one, just can't bear to throw out all that perfectly good fabric even though it's hopelessly out of date!

  8. This one is beautiful Bec, love the colours. I have a hexagon quilt I started 10 years ago, I finally finished putting the top together after 8 years, but it still needs to be quilted, sigh! xo
