Isn't my mum clever, this is her first ever go at paper piecing . The quilt is for a friend who turned 50 the other day. I quilted it for her and on returning it she now is a bit reluctant to see it go. I was given some quilting designs quit a few years ago and this is the first time I have been able to use any of them. It's a bit hard to see but I have quilted owls around the out side border. Big thanks to the kids for holding it up, they have started there school holidays early as some poor child has got swine flu and the school was closed. They think this is the best week ever,I might have a few words about that one .

The boys had their musical on the weekend Bugsy Malone. Nicholas was Fat Sam and John was Ritzy. It was great fun and the boys have been very busy over the last few weeks with a few late nights, but it was worth it. The play went of with a bang and the boys were great. Nicholas is all ready talking about the play next year.

Well here it is my quilt for the quilt swap. This has been one of the hardest and most enjoyable projects that I have had to do for a while. I found it difficult to make something this small , but after I got over the hurdle of size it was a lot of fun playing with designs. I just hope that it will be liked when it arrives overseas.

As you all know I have a long arm quilting machine and on the weekend my hubby had some mates over for a BBQ. One of his mates is a big car nut and on seeing my machine noticed the straps on the side, which are used to help hold the quilt tight . He then turned to me and asked why I had jumper cables on the machine, was it to help get the machine running?

I do sometimes wounder what makes a male mind tick. After such a remark not a lot as it would appear.

What a nice day, my hubby Arndt received a box full of goodies from his Auntie Johanna in Germany. In there was a punch set with pictures of some of the castles along the river Rhine and matching cups for the both of us. It's like the one his Oma had when he was a little boy, its nice to have that bit of history for him and the boys to know a bit more about were there dad comes from. The biggest surprise was the chocolate covered marshmallows he used to eat when he still lived in Germany. Even though the name does not translate to well into the English language they are a big hit with the boys who think they are the best. Auntie Johanna is a sweetie and knows the way to a kids heart.

Nicholas is very proud of his bean tepee, as we have not got our veggie garden started yet Nick and I decided to try growing a few things in pots. It has been great watching how fast the beans grow , when we can stop Harry our cat from eating the leaves. He found them very tasty yesterday on his roam around the garden . We have also tried peas and sweet peas, I hope they go as well. Start putting my small quilt together for my quilt swap today. Has been a bit harder than I thought as I am not use to making small quilts. Will show you when it's all together .

Well it is nice to have some spare time to do something that I have wanted to do for a while. I spent today finishing of my first ever whole cloth quilt. I had great fun doing this and have learnt that wool batting would have given a better result than the cotton that I used. Have already started designing the next one.

There was a local craft fair this weekend in Caloundra and as I was there to help on Saturday morning I got to see all the nice things before they were all sold. As you can see I helped with some of the selling by buying these two paintings by a local painter Joyce Cooke. I think they will look good on the wall, just have to find a spot for them I do like our native flowers and banksia are lovely they grow along the beach fronts here on the sunshine coast. So they always remind me of the sea.
